The investment firm has opened at Platform in central Leeds and appointed Greg Allsopp as investment director, in a sign of more growth capital reaching the region’s businesses.
Growth investor Maven Capital Partners has opened a Leeds office and appointed a senior dealmaker to lead its push across Yorkshire – a move that should mean more funding on the doorstep for the region’s ambitious businesses. The firm, which backs companies through growth capital, management buyouts and regional funds, has taken space at Platform in central Leeds and named Greg Allsopp as investment director, based in the city. Allsopp will lead the search for, and backing of, high-growth Yorkshire companies as the firm looks to deepen its presence in one of the UK’s busiest regional markets.
Why This Matters For Leeds
Access to capital is one of the quiet things that decides whether a city’s businesses scale up or stall, so a growth investor planting a flag in Leeds is a genuine plus for local founders. It adds to a thickening cluster of funders, advisers and deal activity in the city, and signals that national investors rate Yorkshire’s pipeline enough to commit people and offices to it.
Why Maven Capital Partners is opening in Leeds
Maven already invests across Yorkshire and has been active in Leeds. In the past year it put £2.7m into Xentra, a Leeds cyber-security specialist, to fund its growth, and £1.6m into eviFile, a digital assurance software company, for product development and expansion. It also made a partial exit from Hull-based Pagabo Group in 2024 after a three-year investment. The new Leeds base, and a Leeds-based investment director, give the firm a permanent local foothold rather than servicing the region from afar. Allsopp joins from Venturian Funding & Investment Group, where he spent more than a decade on early-stage and growth equity deals and SME lending, having begun his career at law firm DLA Piper advising on private equity and M&A.
“Yorkshire continues to be one of the most attractive investment markets in the UK.”

What it means for Leeds businesses
For Leeds companies, a growth investor setting up locally matters in a practical way: it puts the people who write the cheques closer to the founders who need them. Maven Capital Partners manages a range of funding options, from growth capital and buyout funding to regional growth funds and tax-efficient VCT and EIS products, the kind of capital that can help a scaling business hire, expand or make an acquisition. Investment director Greg Allsopp said he was ‘delighted’ to lead the firm’s activity from the new Leeds office, pointing to ‘a strong pipeline of innovative companies seeking investment to accelerate their ambitions’. Partner Ryan Bevington said the hire was ‘an important part’ of a strategy to grow in a region it rates among the UK’s most attractive.
