About National Wealth Fund

The National Wealth Fund is a government-owned investor based at 2 Whitehall Quay in Leeds. It is wholly owned by HM Treasury but independent in its investment decisions, and it is not a bank. It was formerly known as the UK Infrastructure Bank.

It invests in infrastructure, supply chains, businesses and technologies across the UK that support growth and the move to clean energy. It uses debt, guarantees and, where capacity allows, equity, in sectors including offshore wind, green steel, batteries, AI, semiconductors, defence and life sciences. Private sector projects must be based in the UK and need at least £25 million. Councils can apply through a separate local authority lending route on its enquiry form.
