Weightmans Leeds adds niche transport capability through Myton Law merger alongside London deal with Elborne Mitchell
National law firm Weightmans has completed two mergers effective 1 April 2026, absorbing niche shipping, rail, and logistics practice Myton Law into its Weightmans Leeds office and bringing London insurance specialist Elborne Mitchell into the firm’s City operation. The deals grow the Liverpool-headquartered firm’s presence in two cities where it already has a significant footprint. Weightmans now has more than 1,600 people working across ten offices nationwide, with revenues understood to exceed £140 million.
What Comes to Leeds
The Leeds angle centres on Myton Law, a niche practice specialising in shipping, rail, and logistics with three directors, a solicitor, and a trainee. The firm’s transport and logistics expertise is a new capability for the Weightmans Leeds office. For Leeds businesses operating in freight, rail, or supply chain logistics, the merger means access to specialist transport legal advice from within a national firm already embedded in the city.
Separately, the Elborne Mitchell merger adds a five-partner City of London firm founded nearly 60 years ago with established insurance, employment, and commercial practices. The firm had 13 employees and net assets of £1.9 million as of its last filed accounts. Three Elborne Mitchell members have joined Weightmans’ London office.
“Joining with Elborne Mitchell and Myton Law will contribute significantly to the depth and breadth of services we offer to clients across the globe. Everyone is committed to a shared philosophy of delivering client service excellence and it is with that philosophy we now head into our new future together.”
— Sarah Walton, Managing Partner, Weightmans
Why this matters for Leeds
The addition of Myton Law’s shipping, rail, and logistics specialism is a targeted move that adds a niche transport capability the Leeds office didn’t previously have. For a city with a significant logistics and supply chain sector and with transport investment a key theme in the Combined Authority’s devolution agenda having specialist transport lawyers within a national firm based locally is a practical benefit for businesses in the sector..![]()
