Elland Road Fan Park Plans Submitted as Works Begin

The club has applied to convert a warehouse into a 2,000-capacity venue, just as demolition begins on the £130m stadium expansion

Leeds United has submitted plans for an Elland Road fan park, the latest visible step as the stadium’s wider transformation moves from paper to construction. The club has applied to Leeds City Council to convert a warehouse it owns next to the Stadium Way car park into a 2,000-capacity venue for supporters. The application lands just as building work on the ground itself gets under way: demolition for the new West Stand, the first phase of a £130m expansion to 53,000 seats, began in June.

What the Elland Road Fan Park Would Offer

Designed by architects Bowman Riley, the scheme would turn an existing industrial building, a warehouse and adjoining units opposite the East Stand, into a two-storey hospitality and entertainment venue, keeping elements of its industrial character. Plans show bar and seating areas across both levels, an outdoor courtyard, space for several food and drink operators, and a new roof to improve natural light and ventilation. The intention is a flexible space that serves supporters on matchdays but also works the rest of the year, hosting live sports screenings and other events. The year-round use is a commercially interesting part.

Part of a Bigger Elland Road Picture

In May, Leeds City Council, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leeds United’s development partner, the Lowy Family Group, the Westfield family behind the London 2012 Olympic shopping district, signed a partnership at UKREiiF committing to 2,500 homes, workspace, retail and a mass transit link across the 40-acre stadium district. The mass transit business case is due to go to government later this year. The club will update supporters and residents at its inaugural stadium liaison meeting on Thursday 23 July at 6pm, in the Gary Speed Suite at Elland Road.
