Sarah Hillery, a former president of the British Association of Urological Nurses, becomes chief clinical officer at the digital prescriptions platform built by Leeds manufacturer Optimum Medical
One of the UK’s most senior urology nurses has joined a Leeds health tech business. Sarah Hillery, a former president of the British Association of Urological Nurses, has been appointed chief clinical officer at Vyne, the digital prescriptions and care platform run from Leeds by medical device maker Optimum Medical Solutions. She brings more than 25 years of NHS urological nursing and a seat on the executive board of the European Association of Urology Nurses. The hire points to a company sharpening its clinical credentials as it pushes further into NHS digital services.
Why This Matters For Leeds
Leeds has quietly become one of the country’s most important health technology centres, home to NHS England’s headquarters and a growing cluster of digital health businesses. Vyne is a useful example of how that ecosystem is broadening: a manufacturer building its own software, and now recruiting national clinical leadership to guide it. Senior hires of this calibre keep specialist expertise in the city. In a sector where NHS contracts reward credibility, having recognised clinical names based in Leeds strengthens the case for the whole cluster.
A Nurse Leader Joins the Leeds Health Tech Sector
Sarah Hillery spent more than 25 years in NHS urological nursing before moving into industry, and has held two of the most senior positions in her field: president of the British Association of Urological Nurses, and a place on the executive board of the European Association of Urology Nurses. Her background covers clinical strategy, service transformation and governance. At Vyne she will lead the clinical side of a platform designed to let clinicians and patients manage bladder and bowel care over time, covering prescribing, dispensing, ordering and support.

“My focus now is to ensure nurses are empowered, giving them the tools to deliver excellent aftercare and ensuring that no patient is left without support after discharge.”
— Sarah Hillery, Chief Clinical Officer, Vyne
From Catheters to Digital Prescriptions
Vyne is a brand of Optimum Medical Solutions, the manufacturer based at Tennant Hall near Leeds city centre. Optimum makes intermittent self-catheterisation, urology and healthcare lubrication products, and says its range is sold in more than 60 countries and stocked across NHS hospitals. Vyne is its dispensing appliance contractor arm, delivering continence, stoma and wound care items to patients at home on NHS prescription. The Vyne Online platform was built in-house by the Leeds team after several years of gathering feedback from clinicians and patients, and was shortlisted for standout app of the year at the UK Digital Excellence Awards in 2025. The appointment adds senior clinical weight to a Leeds health tech operation that grew out of manufacturing rather than software.
