Promni Health Leeds rebrands from Primary Care Physio as the BGF-backed healthcare company launches mental health services and delivers over a million NHS patient appointments annually
Leeds-headquartered healthcare company Primary Care Physio has rebranded as Promni Health Leeds, marking the next phase of growth for the BGF-backed business that now delivers over one million NHS patient appointments a year. Founded in Leeds in 2020 by Ryan Allen, Mohammed Nazir, and Professor Gary Shuckford, the company has scaled from a specialist musculoskeletal provider to one of the UK’s largest NHS clinical services partners, employing more than 350 clinicians and operating across 200 Primary Care Networks and 33 of the 36 Integrated Care Boards. The rebrand coincides with the launch of a new mental health service offering, timed to Mental Health Awareness Week 2026.
Why This Matters For Leeds
A Leeds-founded company reaching a million NHS appointments a year in just five years is a significant scaling story. Primary Care Physio secured £8.25 million from BGF in 2023 and has used it to build a national clinical delivery platform from its Leeds base. The rebrand to Promni Health signals ambition beyond physiotherapy into mental health, frailty, pain management, foot health, and women’s health.
Why Promni Health Leeds Changed Its Name
CEO Ryan Allen said the company had outgrown the Primary Care Physio brand. What started as a specialist musculoskeletal provider now delivers multidisciplinary clinical services across primary care, community, and neighbourhood health settings. The services include first contact physiotherapy, mental health, frailty, pain management, foot health, and women’s health, delivered through integrated teams. Mr Allen said the rebrand is not about changing who the company is but accurately representing what it has become. The new mental health service reflects the growing overlap between physical health, mental health, and persistent pain that clinicians see in increasingly complex patient presentations.

“”The NHS is under more pressure than ever, and the need for high-quality, clinically-led, scalable services has never been greater. Promni Health is built to meet that need. We’re excited about the future and the role we can play in supporting the NHS when it needs it most.””
— Ryan Allen, CEO and Co-Founder, Promni Health
From Leeds Startup to National Scale
The growth trajectory is striking. Founded in August 2020, the company secured £8.25 million from BGF the UK’s most active growth capital investor in 2023. Becky Odam, investor at BGF in Yorkshire and the North East, said Promni Health Leeds is now well positioned to expand further into community and neighbourhood health systems, investing in its workforce and deepening partnerships across Primary Care Networks and Integrated Care Systems. The company has won multiple national awards, including Best in Primary Care and Diagnostics at the LaingBuisson Awards 2025, Extended Team Member of the Year at the General Practice Awards 2025, and is a finalist at the HealthInvestor Awards 2026 for both Diagnostics Provider and Primary Care Provider of the Year.
