Pharmacy2U acquisition strengthens care home services
Founded in 2013, Care Quality Pharmacy is one of the largest specialist care home pharmacies in England, providing prescription and NHS services to independent and national care home groups, extra care providers and domiciliary care agencies.
The business supports care providers with medicines management services designed to help maintain regulatory compliance while managing complex medication needs. These services include paper-based and electronic medicines administration records (eMAR), care planning integrations, staff training, and ongoing compliance audits.
Why the care home market matters
Care home patients aged 65 and over received an estimated 42 million NHS prescription items in 2024/25, at a cost of around £410 million, according to the NHS Business Services Authority.
“Care homes are responsible for an important portion of all prescription medications dispensed in the UK predicated on service quality and reliability, making the market a natural extension for Pharmacy2U; the nation’s third largest dispenser of prescription medication. Pharmacy2U’s 98% medicine stock availability means we’re a reliable pair of hands ready to support the care home pharmacy sector. We’ve been very impressed by the team at Care Quality Pharmacy, and I’m delighted to be welcoming them into the group. This acquisition is an important step in delivering Pharmacy2U’s growth strategy and is fully aligned with our approach of partnering with high-quality businesses that leverage our scale and core competencies. I look forward to supporting the team as they continue to deliver excellent care and service to their customers and patients”
