GenesisCare Leeds: new comprehensive cancer centre will bring advanced radiotherapy to the North
GenesisCare Leeds is set to open later this year as the private cancer care provider’s 15th and largest UK centre. The facility will house two of the world’s most advanced radiotherapy platforms, offering MR-guided and CT-adaptive radiotherapy alongside medical oncology, diagnostics, outpatient services, and clinical trials. It’s a significant investment that brings treatments to the North of England that were previously only available at GenesisCare centres in Oxford and London.
NHS Consultants Back the Move
Several NHS consultants from Leeds Teaching Hospitals and other northern trusts have endorsed the centre. Dr Kevin Franks, a consultant clinical oncologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, described having diagnostics, systemic therapy, cellular therapy, and adaptive radiotherapy seamlessly delivered in one comprehensive centre as something that will benefit patients right across the North.
Justin Hely, CEO UK & Europe GenesisCare:
“The opening of our 15th and largest UK centre in Leeds, marks a significant milestone in our mission to provide accessible, world-class cancer care. For patients in the North of England, this new facility will mean access to the latest advancements in both radiotherapy and systemic therapy right on their doorstep. We’re proud to set a new standard in cancer treatment and are committed to delivering personalised and effective care that will positively impact patient outcomes in the North of England and beyond.”
Recruiting a Founding Clinical Team
GenesisCare is currently recruiting the founding clinical team for the Leeds centre, with roles spanning oncology, radiotherapy, diagnostics, and support services. The company, which describes itself as the UK’s leading independent cancer care provider, operates 14 existing centres across England and has been named among the UK’s Best Places to Work.
Why this matters for Leeds
GenesisCare has moved north and has chosen Leeds for its largest and state-of-the-art facility. In choosing the city it positions Leeds as a centre for advanced cancer care; an undeniable benefit for patients in need outside of London. For the local health economy, it means new clinical jobs in a variety of roles.
